About the United Center
The United Center is an enclosed sports arena that is located in Chicago, IL. The arena is located in Chicago's far West Loop neighborhood at the corner of Madison Avenue and Damen Avenue. Construction of the property initially commenced in April of 1992 and was completed in August of 1994, when it first opened to the public. The stadium was used to replace the old Chicago Stadium, which was located across the street and has since been demolished and turned into a parking lot.
The stadium is largely used as the home stadium of the Chicago Bulls, a professional basketball team in the NBA, and the Chicago Blackhawks, a professional hockey team in the NHL. Both teams have used the stadium as their home since it first opened. Capacity for basketball games is 20,917, with room for an additional 2,400 in standing-room only sections. Capacity for hockey games is 19,717, with room for an additional 2,500 standing-room only patrons. While the stadium is still relatively new, the two professional teams have won a combined four championships while playing at the United Center.
Between pre-season, regular season, and post-season games, the two professional teams play close to 100 games at the stadium combined each year. The stadium typically is used another 100 times each year beyond those games. Some of the recurring events that occur each year is the Ringling Brothers Circus, a wide variety of rock concerts, collegiate basketball games, and various professional wrestling performances.
